Jay Contway

Jay Joseph Contway, born in Malta, Montana in 1935, was a renowned Western artist known for his exceptional talent in sculpting and painting. He discovered his passion for art while teaching across Montana and participating in rodeos during the summers. Jay's skill in sculpting, particularly in bronze, earned him widespread recognition, notably through his long-standing association with the Calgary Stampede where his bronzes became integral to their trophy program for over three decades.

Jay's journey in art took him across the Western United States, Canada, Mexico, and Europe, where he found inspiration in the ancient art of bronze casting. Throughout his career, he received numerous awards, including inductions into prestigious halls of fame like the Calgary Stampede Western Art Show Hall of Fame and the Montana Cowboy Hall of Fame.

Jay Contway's dedication to his craft was matched by his contributions to youth scholarships and his active participation in art shows and exhibitions worldwide. He passed away in Great Falls, Montana in 2019, leaving behind a legacy as one of the finest cowboy sculptors in history.
