Chris Cran
Chris Cran, born in 1949 and based in Calgary, Alberta, is a prominent Canadian visual artist known for his extensive exhibition history both nationally and internationally. He graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1979 and has since showcased his work at notable institutions such as the National Gallery of Canada, Glenbow Museum, and various galleries in New York, South Korea, Switzerland, and Ecuador.
In 2016, the National Gallery of Canada held a major retrospective titled "Sincerely Yours," featuring over 130 of Cran's works spanning from 1984 to 2016. Throughout his career, Cran has received several awards recognizing his artistic contributions, including the ACAD Alumni Award of Excellence (2011), the Doug and Lois Mitchell Outstanding Calgary Artist Award (2014), and the Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee Medal (2022). He also received an Honorary Master of Fine Art from the Alberta University of the Arts in 2021.
Cran's artworks are housed in numerous public and private collections, and he is represented by prestigious galleries including Trépanier Baer Gallery in Calgary, Clint Roenisch Gallery in Toronto, and Wilding Cran Gallery in Los Angeles.
