David Bolduc was a prominent Canadian artist born in Toronto. He briefly attended the Ontario College of Art and the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts School before working at the Royal Ontario Museum. A Canada Council grant in 1968 enabled him to travel extensively, which influenced his art.
Initially known for shaped canvases with geometric designs, Bolduc transitioned in the 1970s to his signature style of abstract painting, featuring bold motifs drawn directly from the tube on colorful, textured backgrounds. His work was widely exhibited, including at the Hirschhorn Museum in Washington, DC, in the 1977 exhibition “14 Canadians: a Critic’s Choice.”
Bolduc is recognized as a leading lyrical abstract painter in Canada, with works in several public collections, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario.
